I just changed my permalink structure to category/postname. This really helped solidify this decision. Thank you! Was starting to over-think what I should do! Traci

This a great info. I've been implementing these on my wedding photography blog for some time and the only thing I can say is that it's a lot of work to given different ALT tags for each photo, especially if you post a lot. You can cut down the time a little by choosing 2-3 words that are common to all the ALT tags, then modify each one separately and that will shave off some time. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much for this post!!!
Just a question though. If the Title Attribute holds no SEO value, is it at all necessary besides making it more ‘user” friendly to visitors?
Thanks

Thank you for posting this, Damien. I'm filing a lawsuit against BluDomain. If anyone wants to share their story with me, please e-mail me. I was dicked around for the last 6 months trying to transfer my domain, and they refused to acknowledge that it was locked. It wasn't until I filed a complaint with the BBB that they unlocked my domain. They still refused to acknowledge it, and instead acted like babies saying things like, "I'm not making a case, you are!" and "I've been in business for 10 years... I've been in business for 8 years, why are you telling me how to run a business." What kind of business is supported by such childish antics?

Anyway, I'm contacting a well-known lawyer here in the valley sometime this week and would like to put together enough stories to make a strong case against BluDomain.

One comment about including %category% in your permalink: recategorizing a post, or changing your category structure in the future will break any links or bookmarks. There are plugins to help with 301 redirects, but you'll still take a bit of a traffic hit via Google's index when this kind of change happens.

Also if you're expecting to be Google News-worthy, see http://www.google.com/support/news_pub/bin/answer.py?answer=68323&cbid=1d7kv7l9u7to0&src=cb&lev=answer

Hello Anton,

Lightbox Galleries: Yes. The ProPhoto theme properly allows for alt text in the lightbox galleries.

Flash Galleries: No. The ProPhoto3 theme is not coded properly for this. You might be able to get a little if it were coded differently, but as it is you'd get no benefit from alt text because they completely fail to include the alt attribute in their code. On top of that, Flash is difficult for search engines to read in general. Google has said on multiple occasions that they can index it to a certain degree, but I wouldn't bank on it being near as optimal as standard images inserted into a blog post or a jQuery powered slideshow. I'd avoid Flash unless you're doing video (or video slideshow), or it is absolutely necessary for some reason.

I hope that helps!

Awesome! Thank you very much for your generosity!

I have a question if you have time to address this;

Is adding Alt Text still useful if the images are used in ProPhoto3 Blog's inbuilt Flash slide shows? Does this applies to the Lightbox galleries too?

Many thanx again.
